Another story the media Will Not cover
Great thread guys. I'm very glad I registered premium... It's like I found people who use their brain, and have tractors to boot.
One thing to remember - Our country is not a democracy, but a represenative republic. When you hear politicians wanting to get rid of the electoral college (you'l see this among the greens, "progressives", socialist and democrats), it's because it is the surest way to kill the country and steer it through true inaction. The electoral college at least helps balance stuff. I really think that our founding fathers did get it pretty much right, so hopefully we last longer than the other similar governments in the past.
One distinct thing that I think is great about America, but we are losing, is that everyone in American used to be American, and used to believe in opportinuty, hard work, and a shot to make something of themselves.
Now everyone thinks they need to keep all their previous culture, keep their old language, steal what they don't have so things are fair, or more nominally, sue because they are at a disadvantage, or had a spin of bad luck. Forget teaching your kids English, getting jobs, working hard, starting your own business... Nobody has a work ethic any more, and everyone is waiting for their next entitlement. The recent perscription drug bill is a perfect example.
Hope I don't inflame anyone, we have a great forum here. I do believe that capitalism is the way to keep opportinuty and initiative alive... Even as my own job (software) goes overseas, I'd hate to see tariffs, unions, or other protection, since it would just mean that my countrymen would pay $1000 for a copy of software when the rest of the world pays $100. It would put our country further behind, and make them unable to compete.
I've worked and trained folks in India, and I don't think we have much to worry about. There is a spark here, that is hard to replicate. Nothing like having a competitor and free market to keep people on their toes, and no other markets are anywhere near as free as ours.
And on our forces - God bless. They are amazing, and make me proud. I pray daily for them (and I don't generally pray much) but they have the guts and conviction that has been absent in this country for many years. For those of you in the service, ever, and those of you with family in the service, now or ever, thank you.
Nite, and God bless.
